Irán y Emiratos Árabes Unidos y la energía nuclear pacífica

Filed under: Uncategorized — Nora @ 8:10 pm
Gracias a Weltpolitik Blog:
“The United Arab Emirates is set to launch a nuclear programme, becoming the first Arab state to go ahead with announced ambitions to develop nuclear power.

Flush with petrodollars, the government in Abu Dhabi is preparing a policy document that will soon be sent for comment to world powers, including the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, and to the International Atomic Energy Agency, the UN’s nuclear watchdog.

Six Arab Gulf states, including the UAE, last year asked the IAEA to study the feasibility of a joint nuclear programme in a move seen as a political response to Iran’s nuclear activities…”

At the same time: Iran sees nuclear power this time next year, according to Agggmi (he still needs to change his hairdresser, and his brains, but the latter is much more difficult):

TEHRAN (Reuters) – Iran expects to have its own nuclear-generated electricity by this time next year and will not bow to Western pressure to halt uranium enrichment, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Wednesday.

Ahmadinejad told a crowd in the southern city of Bushehr that Iran was approaching the peak of its nuclear programprograme.

Iran’s planned first nuclear power plant is sited close to Bushehr. The plant would begin test operations by late October, a senior official said on Wednesday, two days after Russia completed fuel deliveries to the site.

And well, Putin is back (as plodon has told me commenting here):
Iran on Monday received the eighth and final consignment of nuclear fuel from Russia for the plant near Bushehr, less than two months after the first shipment.

Fayyazbakhsh, who heads the production and development unit of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organisation, said he expected Russia to deliver remaining equipment for Bushehr in coming months.

“Out of 50,000 tonnes of equipment, some 1,900 tonnes including precision instruments and a ventilation system for Bushehr have yet to be delivered to Iran,” he said.

This comes as Agggmi has (again) menaced Israel:
Accept that the life of Zionists will sooner or later come to an end,” the Iranian president said in a televised speech.

He added, “What we have right now is the last chapter [of Israeli atrocities] which the Palestinians and regional nations will confront and eventually turn in Palestine’s favor.”

Oh, yeah, but his nuclear program is peaceful… Very peaceful. I’m swearing you. Oh, and if you don’t believe me, you are a bad Zionist.😛

    Q. You were critical of the latest National Intelligence Estimate on Iran.

    A. Our interpretation is that clearly the Iranians are aiming at nuclear capability. It’s probably true that . . . they may have slowed down the weapons group in 2003, because it was the height of American militarism. . . . We think that they are quite advanced, much beyond the level of the Manhattan Project. We suspect they are probably already working on warheads for ground-to-ground missiles . . . [and] that probably they have another clandestine enrichment operation beyond the one in Natanz.
