The seven islamists imprisoned at A Lama accused of March 11th bombings, ask for help to the prison’s Catholic priest

Los siete islamistas del 11-M presos en A Lama piden ayuda al capellán de la cárcel – Galicia – Faro de Vigo, thanks to Alawen:

The islamists who are imprisoned in the Galician prison of A Lama after being condemned because of the March 11th bombings, which killed 191 and hurt 1824 people, have asked the Catholic Church for help.

The seven imprisoned -sentenced from 12 to 23 years in jail- have interviewed themselves with the prison’s chaplain to try to reach their goals. Their target is to make the priest intercede in their behalf to benefit from pensions, company and ill people’s attention which can only be reached by the Penitentiary Catholic Service, whose boss is the priest. Volunteers of the Catholic Pastoral Service have confirmed the contacts.

Hamid Ahmidan, Abdelmajid Bouchar, Rachid Aglif, Mohamed Bouharrat, Sael el Harrak, Basel Ghalyoun and Mohamed Larbi Ben Sellam, arrived in the end of November 2007 to the Pontevedra’s prison. One of them knew it already, because he spent the time before the process in it, as «preventive imprisoned». He is Hamid Ahmidan, The Chinese‘s cousin, one of the seven suicide terrorist of Leganés and leader of the criminal organization whose benefits -primarily from the drug trafficking- contributed to the financing of the terrorist attacks.

The seven Islamists are in the same part of the prison and are isolated from the rest of the imprisoned population in individual cells. They only are entitled to four hours in the yard and to two hours to practice sports and study. The rest of the day they are in their cells.

The Islamists’ strategy to resort to the Catholic priests to improve their situation in prison, is not only used in A Lama. They already stated in their conversation with the priest that in the prisons they were before that moment, they had the assistance of Catholic priests.

A Lama’s chaplain, according to the same sources, did not have any problem to speak with them in what they described as a «first contact», because that is something it’s normally done with the imprisoned guys who apply for it, whether they are Catholic, Muslim or Agnostic.

«The main objective of all the Penitentiary Pastoral is the service and attention to the people who are deprived of freedom of their families, and their accompaniment and integration through workrooms, but that does not mean at all justifying their crimes or motives that could cause their internment in prison», the responsible of the program stated.

Even if the risk exists of recurring to one of their main enemies, the Catholic Church, to clean their image, the help petitions to Penitentiary Pastoral are something very regular among the elevated number of Muslim inmates (around 200, nearly 80% of all the foreign inmates in A Lama). Most of them are Moroccans or Algerians which are sheltered in their leave days in apartments which belong to the pastoral team.

Father Isaac, the chaplain of the Pontevedra’s prison of A Lama, is cautious when being asked about the contacts maintained and states that this was only the first meeting, that it will be continued. About the fact that this group could have interviewed themselves with an Imam and not with a Catholic priest, he answers that there is freedom of belief inside the prison, «according to the Constitution» and they could have spoken with imams.

«The team of the Penitentiary Pastoral provides humanitarian and social help to the people that needs it and applies for it without asking about their religion«, he assures. «It’s a humanitarian service for the inmates. We don’t ask them about their crimes«, he concludes.

Antes del 11 de septiembre, algunos grupos terroristas también estaban implicados en diverso grado en el tráfico de drogas regional. La mayoría de los grupos terroristas implicados en él, como Al-Qaeda o los Tigres Tamiles, jugaban un papel muy limitado: algunos de los miembros implicados en el tráfico, usaban sus redes para beneficiarsse de operaciones de tráfico de pequeña escala. El único grupo que estaba implicado de manera importante en el tráfico de los opiáceos afganos fue el Movimiento Islámico de Uzbekistán (IMU). Ahora bien, teniendo en cuenta la organización y las operaciones del IMU anteriores al 11 de septiembre, parece que tenían más intereses criminales que religiosos o políticos. A diferencia de otros grupos insurgentes o terroristas de Afganistán -identificados por sus motivaciones políticas- el IMU es un grupo que realiza todas las actividades del nexo crimen-terror. Es tanto criminal como terrorista por su propia naturaleza: criminal por su implicación directa en el tráfico de drogas, y terrorista por sus declaraciones explícitas (incluso retóricas) políticas.

Aunque el liderazgo del IMU puede encontrarse en los partidos de oposición islámica que aparecieron en el Valle Ferghana en los 90, no fue hasta los últimos 90 que el IMU emergió como una fuerza organizada. Las intenciones declaradas del IMU intentaban concentrarse en la persecución de los musulmanes en Uzbekistán y en reemplazarlos con el gobierno actual uzbeko con un estado islámico. Después de esta declaración, el gobierno de Uzbekistán consideró al IMU responsable de planear y llevar a cabo una campaña terrorista, que incluía un ataque a un policía en Namangan en los últimos meses de 1997 y una serie de ataques con bomba en Tashkent en 1999. En 2000, el grupo se hallaba ya en la lista del Departamento de Estado americano de grupos terroristas.

Aunque el IMU no ha realizado ningún acto terrorista en Asia Central (esto es, no ha convertido en objetivo a civiles inocentes), han encabezado una insurgencia contra el gobierno y traficado con narcóticos ilícitos. Las actividades del IMU sugieren que la motivación de sus incursiones insurgentes en 1999 y 2000 no era el establecimiento de un estado islámico en Uzbekistán, si no desestabilizar las fronteras para mantener y asegurar las rutas de transporte de narcóticos. En otras palabras, el IMU manipuló de manera muy exitosa la situación mediante el uso de lo que se ha considerado como actividad terrorista para perseguir intereses criminales.

(Podemos considerarlo por tanto como una fuerza guerrillera, más que como una grupo terrorista).

A través de los años 1998 y 1999, los insurgentes del IMU parecían concentrar la mayoría de sus esfuerzos en rutas de tráfico y, como consecuencia, tenían pocas razones para llevar a cabo actividades terroristas en Asia Central. Los insurgentes que buscaban rutas para tráfico de narcóticos no fueron detectados ni se informó sobre ellos durante la mayoría del tiempo, a pesar de los conflictos cada vez más frecuentes con los guardias de la frontera. No había sido hasta la mitad de 1999 cuando se comienza a informar sobre incursiones en el sur de Kyrgyzstan y enfrentamientos en la frontera tajiko-uzbeka comienzan a preocupar en relación con la seguridad regional.

Todo ello encuentra su punto culminante después de los ataques con bombas en Uzbekistán y las preocupaciones crecientes dentro del gobierno uzbeko sobre las fuerzas de la oposición cada vez más fuertes. En dos incidentes separados en agosto, el IMU entró en el distrito de Batken de Kyrgzystan y secuestró a varias personas. La demanda oficial de los secuestradores presentada al gobierno kyrgyzo fue que el IMU liberaría a los secuestrados a cambio de la liberación de aproximadamente 50.000 musulmanes, que estaban injustamente en prisión en Uzbekistán y un pasaje seguro dentro de Uzbekistán. A pesar de estas demandas, el IMU primero liberó un grupo de secuestrados por un rescate de 50.000 dólares USA y los demás fueron liberados después de dos meses, por otro rescate de 2 millones de dólares USA  de un pasaje libre a Tajikistán.

La facilidad con que el liderazgo del IMU abandonó sus peticiones iniciales inmediatamente dio lugar a que se cuestionasen sus motivaciones iniciales. Mientras que los líderes regionales y los medios internacionales se centraron en grupos relativamente pequeños de militantes que habían mantenido a los secuestrados en Batken, otros miembros estaban transportando cargamentos de mercancías ilícitas por las fronteras, mientras que llevaban a cabo misiones de reconocimiento para confirmar rutas potenciales para nuevos tráficos.

(Esto es, un acto terrorista de alto nivel fue en realidad un acto de distracción, una cobertura para el tráfico de narcóticos).

Las incursiones en Uzbekistán y Kyrgyzstan por los militantes de la IMU durante agosto del 2000 confirmaron aún más que el grupo estaba enfocado al tráfico regional de drogas. Habiendo ganado por su actividad militante el año anterior, se esperaba que el IMU fuera a intentar duplicar su éxito. Al empezar agosto, los militantes se metieron en un puesto de guardia uzbeko en la frontera Tajiko-uzbeka y un día después lucharon con las fuerzas kyrgyzas. Aunque esa confrontación directa con las fuerzas de seguridad de Asia Central pueda ser interpretada como un acto de guerra de guerrilla, no es muy plausible que esas dos incursiones tuvieran por objeto derribar al gobierno. El objeto era, sin embargo, crear un sentimiento de inestabilidad y confusión en los dos distritos que eran usados como ruta de tránsito para las drogas.

Las incursiones de 1999 y 2000 tuvieron lugar en áreas por las que pasaban varias rutas importantes de tráfico de drogas. La inestabilidad en estas áreas crearon condiciones perfectas para mover transportes grandes de ilícitos. Lo que es más, todos estos incidentes ocurrieron prácticamente en la misma época del año, justo después de la cosecha anual en Afganistán. La pregunta que debe hacerse es por tanto si las incursiones de agosto de 1999 y del 2000 fueron coincidentes o si se planearon en ese momento del verano para maximizar el potencial del tráfico por restricciones metereológicas. Puede concluirse que el IMU usó la inestabilidad regional creada por la actividad de los insurgentes para transportar las drogas a través de las fronteras. Considerando que el IMU controla hasta el 70% de los narcóticos que entra en Kyrgyzstan, y posiblemente una parte de los que entran en Tajikistán, la carga de hacer seguras las rutas del tráfico fue asignada al IMU si querían mantener el control sobre esa porción de la «Ruta Norte».

Lo que parece que estamos viendo crecer en el Centro de Asia es similar a la situación que emergió en Paquistán como resultado del tráfico internacional de drogas. A pesar de los programas islámicos radicales mantenidos por los grupos fundamentalistas de Paquistán, su interés primario durante los años anteriores ha sido el del tráfico de narcóticos. Como mantiene Ahmed Rashid, «en Paquistán, por tener la cobertura del Islam, es muy difícil desacreditar a estos partidos o explicar su criminalización.»

(Los mulás, que son unos hipócritas y unos sagaces hombres de negocios).

Todos los hechos realizados por el IMU antes del 11 de septiembre indican que la motivación primigenia del IMU, bajo el liderazgo del comandante militar Juma Namanganiy, fue criminal. Después de 1999, el IMU quedó predominantemente bajo el control de Namanganiy. A pesar de describírsele como un «Musulmán redescubridor del Islam» (nota: «reborn Muslim», o sea, primero lo fue, se apartó de la fe y luego volvió a serlo), no hay ninguna indicación de que fuera un musulmán estricto con ninguno de sus asociados. Por el contrario, antes de dedicar su vida al IMU se cree que Namanganiy estaba ya implicado en el tráfico de drogas.  No es sorprendente que bajo su liderazgo el IMU se centró en asegurar su papel como un líder en el tráfico de los opiáceos hacia Asia Central. Considerando la muerte de Namanganiy durante la ofensiva contra-terrorista liderada por EEUU en Afganistán, es posible que el IMU reemerja como un grupo ideológico bajo el liderazgo del líder del grupo político Tahir Yuldashev.

Las pruebas y las anécdotas actuales sugieren que Yuldashev está reformando el IMU, y es posible que se reserve la pertenencia a individuos dedicados a ideales radicales islámicos. Si esto pasara, el IMU exhibiría una tendencia reversiva en que, al contrario que la mayoría de los grupos criminal-terroristas que comienzan con motivaciones estrictamente políticas terminan teniendo ramificaciones criminales, el IMU puede cambiar de una organización predominantemente criminal, a uno que da prioridad a esas aspiraciones políticas. 

Considerando la actual situación en Asia Central, con extremistas insurgentes repartidos por la región y con violaciones de derechos humanos continuadas contra grupos musulmanes (como Hibz-ut Tahrir), no es posible que Yuldashev encuentre difícil reclutar una base de miembros sólida para el IMU. En ausencia de la base de apoyo logístico y financiero que una vez existió en Afganistán, queda como posible que el IMU que resurja continúe dependiendo del tráfico de narcóticos para asegurarse la financiación a pesar del nuevo objetivo político del grupo. Si el tráfico regional de drogas no recibe una atención informativa internacional mayor, la participación continuada del IMU en el tráfico de drogas puede asegurarse la financiación requerida para abiertamente conseguir objetivos políticos a través de actividades terroristas.

Yankee Doodle termina diciendo, en plan sarcástico:

El dinero corrompe y el tráfico de drogas paga muchos grandes billetes en metálico.

Tan pronto como vean lo rentable que es la jihad, encontrarán la indulgencia religiosa en el comercio de la heroína.

Después de todo, Alá lo entiende.

Y muchas personas también lo entenderán y lo disculparán. 

(Una aclaración: los abusos de Derechos Humanos no me gustan en ningún caso. Pero hay que decir que Hibz ut-Tahrir es una organización bastante poco clara, que abiertamente no quiere la violencia, pero que sí aboga por el Califato Global. Entre otros ilustres miembros tenemos a Abu Hamza, el clérigo garfio que predicaba el asesinato de los infieles en la famosa mezquita de Regent’s Park londinense. Y es una organización que se dedica a captar adeptos a través de internet. Así que su consideración como un mero «grupo musulmán» es muy vaga para considerarse correcta, desde mi punto de vista, que, desde luego, no es el de un experto).

Al Qaeda continues to recruit mentally disabled – Al Qaeda continúa su reclutamiento de personas con problemas mentales

Ya he blogueado antes sobre la intención de Al Qaeda de reclutar a personas con problemas mentales para ser terroristas suicidas. El último ha sido Reilly, un inglés de 22 años, que responde al nombre de Mohammed Rashid, que se convirtió al islam y que ha pasado un tiempo en un hospital psiquiátrico, donde ha sido descrito como un introvertido inseguro con una edad mental de 10 años. Parece padecer el síndrome de Asperger, una forma de autismo y también esquizofrenia. Sin embargo, esto no ha impedido a Al-Qaeda reclutarlo como terrorista suicida.

Al Qaeda anima a los marroquíes a luchar contra los españoles de Ceuta y Melilla. Leed el link porque es muy interesante.

Digamos que esto no me sorprende nada. Ya ha amenazado varias veces con esta cuestión (como ya blogueé aquí, entre otras y precisamente, teneindo en cuenta la nueva franquicia de Al-Qaeda en el Magreb) y encima ahora el Plan de Reestructuración del Ejército determina que en Melilla vayan a reducirse efectivos, lo que sin embargo ha sido negado por la Ministra Chacón en una carta a Imbroda. Y además ocurre después de que se publicase que Zapatero si ganaba las elecciones iba a negociar la co-soberanía de Ceuta y Melilla.

Por cierto, que en esta «histórica reivindicación» (¿?) también apoya a Marruecos la Liga Árabe… y nosotros con estos pelos… digo, políticos…

Relacionado con Al-Qaeda hay que decir que Al-Zawahiri ha negado que el 11-S fuera una conspiración de Israel o de EEUU y ha acusado a Irán de propagar esa mentira:

El asistente más importante de Bin Laden en una cinta grabada acusó al chií Irán de intentar desacreditar a la red suní de Al-Qaeda, extendiendo la teoría conspirativa de que Israel estaba detrás de los ataques de Al-Qaeda.

Los comentarios reflejan que el líder nº 2 de Al-Qaeda está incrementando su críticas a Irán. Al-Zawahiri ha acusado a Irán de intentar extender su poder en el Medio Oriente, especialmente en Irak y a través de sus aliados de Hizbulá en Líbano.

¿La causa? Al-Qaeda es sunita e Irán es chií. Y puede tener relación con esta otra noticia: los palestinos se están pasando al chiísmo porque su financiación es iraní (qué convencimiento, ¿ehh? Poderoso caballero es Don Dinero, que escribió Quevedo):

las fuentes dicen que un importante número de operativos estaban adoptando la tradición chií, a pesar de que sólo unos cuantos han realizado una conversión formal.

«Es una decisión en relación con la carrera,» una fuente palestina dijo. «Si eres chií, Irán y Hizbulá confían más en tí y puedes incluso obtener más dinero.»

La Franja Oeste y Franja de Gaza son mayoritariamente musulmanas sunitas- Hasta el 2007, no se oía hablar de los chiíes en la Franja Oeste.

Pero durante el año pasado, las instituciones chiíes han comenzado a operar en las áreas palestinas. Las fuentes indican que los sunitas han demostrado poco interés.

Ahora bien, los insurgentes financiados por Irán, han demostrado un gran interés en el chiísmo. La familia del comandante de la Jihad Islámica, Mohammed Shehadeh, muerto a mitad de marzo en una operación israelí, se ha convertido de la tradición sunita a la chiíta en la ciudad de Belén (ayyyy, Señor, nunca mejor dicho) de la Franja Oeste.

(…) Las fuentes indican que los chiíes palestinos están también vinculados a Hizbulá. Dicen también que Hizbulá ha animado a los jóvenes palestinos, particularmente los efectivos de la insurgencia, a estudiar teología chií en Irán y Líbano.

Ahora bien, la pregunta que todo esto me suscita es: ¿estamos asistiendo a las primeras fases de una guerra más o menos larvada (otra más) entre las facciones chií y sunita del Islam por el control sobre Palestina? Con independencia de que eso puede (no digo que vaya) disminuir los ataques a Israel (puede ser que también intenten competir a ver quién le ataca más), si Irán consigue la conversión en esos lares de los palestinos, el problema puede extenderse. Hay que tener en cuenta que ya Arabia Saudí protestó por el Líbano y Hizbulá, en relación a Siria (también chií y aliada de Irán) hace unos meses:

Los lazos entre Siria y los saudíes son difíciles desde hace algún tiempo, sintiendo el reino que su papel en la búsqueda de una reconciliación entre las facciones libanesas y palestinas ha sido socavado desde Damasco.

Es lógico que Arabia Saudí y Al-Qaeda tengan la misma preocupación: tanto uno como otro son suníes y ambos tienen por objeto el Califato Global. Otra cosa es que los medios sean diferentes: los wahabíes son por métodos pacíficos, mediante la predicación y la conversión del Islam más radical, así como mediante la petición de privilegios para los musulmanes, a través de las mezquitas en Occidente, mientras que Al-Qaeda se vale del terror para conseguir esos mismos objetivos.

PS: Un resumen de este post es lo primero que escribo para Desde El Exilio. La verdad: cuando me dijo Luis que si quería postear para su blog, me dio mucha vergüenza (ahora risa general). (PD).- The No. 2 of the terrorist net, Al Qaeda, Ayman Al-Zawahiri has encouraged the Moroccans to «fight against Satan’s allies», in referrence to «the Spanish occupation» of Ceuta and Melilla.

Zawahiri statements were recorded and published in an Islamist web page, in the second phase of its answers sent through Internet to the Al-Qaeda leader from across the world.

A Moroccan, identified as Abu al Walid, asked Al Zawahiri about the role of the Moroccans considering the «Spanish occupation of one part of the remote countries of the Maghreb», in referrence to Ceuta and Melilla.

Zawahiri answered with quotes from the Quran such as the question «Why don’t you fight in the way of Allah?» and added «those who have faith, will fight in the way of Allah, fight against the Satan’s allies!».

The record lasts more than two hours, in which Zawahiri read each question and identified their author. It contains numerous questions and petitions of advice sent by Moroccans and Alegrians.

Jihad in the Maghreb

Zawahiri underlined the importance of «Jihad» (holy war) in the Maghreb countries.

«The jihad of our brothers in the countries of Maghreb is a step forward the Muslim Caliphate», Zawahiri stated.

In an answer to a question about the best way to fight agains the «Crusaders and the Apostates» in Algeria, Zawahiri advised the author of the question «to continue the Jihad of the Al-Qaeda’s organization in the Maghreb countries, which are one of the best in acheiving the expulsion of apostates and in fighting the crusaders».

A question sent by a Moroccan woman asks for advice about the woman’s role in the fight and more precisely, if the woman should abandon her sons to fight Jihad in the Maghreb countries.

«Well, at first we must say, that the Jihad should include everyone, but the Jihadists understand your needs. I’m not telling you to abandon your sons, but I’m telling you to be prepared for any service which the Jihadists can need», ansered Zawahiri.

But, answering if a man can leave the Jihad out of love or to study, Zawahiri ansewered that the holy war has always the priority.

Last december, Al Qaeda invited the MSM to interview its «number 2» in internet, according to a statement by As Sahab, the company which acts as a producer using the net to spread its audiovisual messages.

Everyone who wanted to, had the opportunity to send its questions from Dec 16th to Jan 16th through several Islamist web pages: Al Ekhlas, Al Hasba, Al Baraq and Al Firdos.

Al-Qaeda, and specifically Al-Zawahiri has already menaced with this several times before this one (as I blogged here, among others and precisely, considering the new Al-Qaeda franchise in the Maghreb). The menace comes in a moment when the «Army Reestructuring Plan» includes the reduction of effectives in Melilla, something which has been denied by the Minister Chacón in a letter to the President of Autonomous City, Imbroda. And it also takes place after it was published that Zapatero, if he won the elections, was going to negotiate the co-sovereignty of Ceuta and Melila.

By the way, in this «historical reivindication» (something entirely stupid because Ceuta and Melilla were conquered in XVIth century, when Spanish kings still wanted to conquer the North of Africa to Islamic conquerors, a plan which was stopped by the Protestand reform, which made the Emperor Charles V of Germany and I of Spain drive all his Armies to Germany and abandon the project) this ambition by Morocco is also supported by the Arab League… and meanwhile we are with this kind of irrational policy…

Anyway, Al-Zawahiri has also denied that Sept 11 bombings were made by Israel and has blamed Iran for these theories:

Osama bin Laden‘s chief deputy in an audiotape Tuesday accused Shiite Iran of trying to discredit the Sunni al-Qaida terror network by spreading the conspiracy theory that Israel was behind the Sept. 11 attacks.

The comments reflected al-Qaida’s No. 2 leader Ayman al-Zawahri‘s increasing criticism of Iran. Al-Zawahri has accused Iran in recent messages of seeking to extend its power in the Middle East, particularly in Iraq and through its Hezbollah allies in Lebanon.

The cause of this increased criticism of Iran can be in the difference of theological adscription of both groups: while Al Qaeda is Sunni Muslim, Iran and Hezbollah are Shia Muslims. And this piece of news can be the real base of it:

The sources said scores of operatives were adopting Shi’ite tradition, although only a handful underwent a formal conversion.

«It’s a career decision,» a Palestinian source said. «When you’re Shi’ite, you become more trusted by Iran and Hizbullah and you might even get more money.»

The West Bank and the Gaza Strip is overwhelmingly Sunni Muslim. Until 2007, Shi’ites were unheard of in the West Bank.

But over the last year, Shi’ite institutions have begun to operate in the Palestinian areas. The sources said they have drawn slight interest from Sunnis.

Insurgents financed by Iran, however, have demonstrated the greatest interest in Shi’ism. The family of Jihad commander Mohammed Shehadeh, slain in mid-March in an Israeli operation, converted from Sunni to Shia in the West Bank city of Bethlehem.

(…) The sources said the Palestinian Shi’ites were also linked to Hizbullah. They said Hizbullah has encouraged young Palestinians, particularly insurgency operatives, to study Shi’ite theology in Iran and Lebanon.

We have to take into account that Saudi Arabia had complained several months ago about Syrian role in Lebanon, accusing Syria of undermining its role to bring peace between Lebanese and Palestinian factions.

Could another war between Shia and Sunni be in the making for the control over Palestine and Lebanon? We can see though, the similarities between Saudis and Al-Qaedans: in the end, their goal (the achievement of the Global Caliphate) is common. The only difference is in their means to achieve it.

Abu Izzadeen, a 32-year-old electrician who is a British-born convert to Islamic, was sentenced along with five other men following their convictions by a jury Thursday. Izzadeen is best known for confronting then-Home Secretary John Reid at a community center in 2006. Reid urged Muslim families to intervene if they feared their children were being radicalized, then Izzadeen interrupted and accused Britain of state terrorism.

But Izzadeen’s conviction stemmed from inflammatory speeches given in 2004, as U.S. troops battled insurgents in the Iraqi city of Fallujah, and remarks made after the July 2005 bombings in London that killed 52 commuters. He allegedly called for volunteers to fight coalition troops in Iraq and urged Muslims to give money to insurgents overseas

Abu Izzadeen, un electricista de 32 años, que es un británico converso al Islam, fue sentenciado junto con otros 5 hombres, después de que fueran leídas sus condenas por el jurado el jueves pasado. Izzadeen es más conocido como el que se enfrentó al entonces Secretario de Interior John Reid en un centro comunitario en 2006 (en cuyo ataque básicamente negó la soberanía inglesa sobre las áreas que fueran predominantemente británicas del Este de Londres). Reid urgía a las familias musulmanas a intervenir si temían que sus hijos estaban siendo radicalizados cuando Reid interrumpía y acusaba a Inglaterra de ser un Estado terrorista.

Pero la condena a Izzadeen tiene lugar como consecuencia de varios discursos inflamatorios pronunciados en 2004, mientras las tropas estadounidenses se batían contra los «insurgentes» en la ciudad iraquí de Fallujah, y por ciertas declraciones realizadas después de los atentados de 2005 en Londres que asesinaron a 52 personas que viajaban en el metro. Según parece pidió que se presentaran voluntarios para luchar contra las tropas de la coalición en Irak y urgió a los musulmanes a que dieran dinero a los insurgentes en el extranjero.

Su compañero el musulmán converso nacido en Inglaterra Simon Keeler fue también sentenciado a 4 años y medio de prisión por cargos similares.

«Encuentro que sois arrogantes, despreciativos y absolutamente desprovistos de cualquier tipo de remordimiento», dijo el Juez Nicolás Price a los hombre cuando les eran entregadas las sentencias.

El acusado Abdul Muhid fue setnenciado a 2 años. Ya está cumpliendo condena de 4 años por solicitar el asesinato en una protesta en 2006 sobre la publicación de las caricaturas de Mahoma en un periódico danés.

Otro acusado, Shah Jalal Hussein, se entregó a la policía el viernes después de haber incumplido los términos de su libertad condicional durante todo el juicio. Fue sentenciado a 2 años por financiar el terrorismo y a 3 meses por incumplir su libertad condicional.

Mientras que las tropas occidentales estaban luchando en Fallujah en Noviembre de 2004 el grupo dio una serie de discursos en la mezquita, presumiendo de ser terroristas y exhortando a todos los seguidores a dar donaciones para comprar armas que serían usadas en la guerra santa en Irak.
Los discursos coincidieron también con la noche del festival musulmán de Ramadán conocido como la «Noche del Poder» y fueron grabados en un DVD que dura cerca de 5 horas (joé, están imitando a Fidel…).

Añade que ahora cobra más de 1000 libras (300 más que cuando atacó a John Reid) al mes. Y que ha estado tanto con Abu Hamza (el imán del garfio, para que nos entendamos) como con otro conocido: Omar Bakri Mohammed. Se convirtió al Islam a lso 17 años y fue radicalizado precisamente por Abu Hamza. Había nacido en una familia cristiana de origen jamaicano que vivía en el norte de Londres.

«The home secretary has described the terrorism threat facing the UK as ‘severe’ and ‘growing’.

In a News of the World interview, Jacqui Smith said 30 terror plots were being investigated and police needed to be able to detain suspects for longer.

Ms Smith is facing a Labour rebellion over plans to extend the time suspects can be held without charge to 42 days.

The Conservatives said the ‘right way’ to deal with the problem was to use more resources ‘to track plots’.

‘Growing threat’

The home secretary said: ‘We now face a threat level that is severe. It’s not getting any less, it’s actually growing.«

«There are 2,000 individuals they are monitoring. There are 200 networks. There are 30 active plots.

«That has increased over the past two years. Since the beginning of 2007, 57 people have been convicted on terrorist plots.

«Nearly half of those pleaded guilty so this is not some figment of the imagination. It is a real risk and a real issue we need to respond to.

«We can’t wait for an attack to succeed and then rush in new powers. We’ve got to stay ahead.»

Of course, it’s growing because you’re fighting the ideology fight. You’re not contradicting the jihadis… you’re just telling them their plans to have special legislation and special treatment in law, are really correct and can be considered as fair in UK. That’s why the threat is not getting any less, but growing continuosly… As Jihad Watch says:

En español tratan la noticia LD y El Mundo. De todas sus declaraciones quiero señalar dos cosas:

«Hay 2.000 individuos bajo vigilancia. Hay 200 redes implicadas en 30 complots activos», afirmó la ministra en una entrevista al sensacionalista ‘News of the world’, en el que justificó la necesidad de incrementar de 28 a 42 días el plazo de detención sin cargos de sospechosos de terrorismo.

Esa ampliación está recogida en el llamado Proyecto de Ley Antiterrorista de 2008, pieza clave de la agenda legislativa del Gobierno de Gordon Brown, que ha suscitado una gran controversia en el Reino Unido y puede generar una rebelión en las filas laboristas.

«El peligro se ha incrementado en los últimos dos años. Desde principios del 2007, ha habido 57 personas condenadas por complots terroristas. Casi la mitad de ellas se declaró culpable, así que esto no es producto de nuestra imaginación. Es un riesgo real al que necesitamos dar respuesta», aseguró la ministra.

Dos cosas: todos estamos de acuerdo (bueno, los que tenemos algo de sentido común) en que hay que seguir adelante. Pero la solución no está en ampliar el plazo de detención, está en algo mucho más importante y difícil: la lucha ideológica contra el jihadismo. Algo que ni han hecho antes, ni están haciendo ahora ni se espera que hagan en el futuro. Mientras que no luchen activamente contra los que se aprovechan de su religión para que no se les requise el carnet porque son polígamos, contra los que no pueden contar sus delitos en los Programas de Asistencia a los Presos condenados por abusos sexuales porque su religión no se lo permite o contra los que consideran islamofobia el denunciar que tres musulmanes hayan pegado una paliza de muerte a un cura anglicano al grito de «aquí debería haber una mezquita,no una iglesia«, entre otros «privilegios», mal vamos.

No esperen que disminuya el riesgo terrorista porque su fundamento ideológico efectivamente sigue ahí y cada día más fuerte, si sólo hay tres pirados bloggeros que se esfuerzan en intentar denunciarlo, mientras los Gobiernos sólo intentan aumentar las medidas represivas (y a veces ni eso..). Que no digo que no sean necesarias, pero nunca serán suficientes.

Los marroquíes acusados de los atentados de Casablanca (2003) se escapan de la cárcel

Morocco’s state news agency quotes the Justice Ministry as saying the breakout was discovered this morning and that a search is under way.

The MAP news agency says the escapees were convicted ‘in cases linked to the 2003 events,’ but did not elaborate. Moroccan officials are refusing comment.

Suicide bombings in Casablanca in May 2003 targeted a Jewish community center, a hotel, a restaurant and a Spanish social club.

A total of 45 people were killed, including the attackers.»

Jihad Watch añade que hicieron un túnel para escaparse. Curiosa la poca relevancia que esta noticia ha tenido en la prensa (y en la blogosfera) española. Especialmente cuando parece posible que les dejaran escapar:

Claro, escaparse… es una opción para personas que han sido condenadas a cadena perpetua… No es que me fíe yo mucho de la justicia marroquí… pero… ¿a que suena todo a montaje? La carta con las razones (eso ¿no es más propio de los suicidas?), la huelga de hambre, la prisión de la que otro ya se había fugado…

Two Islamists, detained in Melilla

The Civil Guard has detained this Tuesday in Melilla to two alleged Moroccan Islamists, one of them related with the Casablanca attack in 2003 and the other with a finished terrorist net in Morocco in February. One of the detained is Ali Aarass, who according with the Civil Guard is member of the «Movement of the Mujahidines of the Maghreb» from 1982 and it’s related with the Casablanca attacks, in which 45 people were killed.

The second arrested is Mohammed El Bay, linked with a group which according to Morocco, was preparing some attacks in the Maghreb and which was finished in February with the detention of 30 people, according to the Civil Guard. The Armed Institution also stated that El Bay was in charge of the relations with weapons’ dealers in the center of Europe.

Morocco has called for international aid for their detention. Moroccan authorities have finished dozens of alleged fundamentalist cells later and the countries’ jails are full of hundreds of alleged Islamists.

Seven man commit suicide in Casablanca, the economic capital of Morocco, in March and April 2007, killing a policeman.

Some bombs much more damaging have shaken the neighbour Argelia and analysts in security consider that the Islamist groups have reinforced their cooperation against the North African governments.

Very interesting that part about the «weapons’ dealers» located in Europe. But it would have been better if they would have reported in which part of Europe, that traffic was made.

Elecciones Generales 2008: Liveblogging

I begin here the live-blogging of the General Spanish Elections 2008. We will have to wait for around two hours to reach the final results.

The preliminary polls indicate that Socialists are very near an absolute majority so they could get to the Government with no need to pact with any other political force… But those haven’t any basis on real data so we must wait till the first results.

20:48: First results will be available around 22:30 (Spanish time).

21:11: With 9% of the vote examined: 164 Socialists, 136 Popular Party according to the Interior Ministry’s website.

21:27: 172 PSOE, 144 PP.

21:31: 170: PSOE, 150: PP (33% considered).

There is a tendency of PSOE lowering its percentage of vote (at first it was 48%, now it’s 44,83%). And PP going up: at first it was 35%, now it’s 39,26%. But we can say that the Socialists have AGAIN won the elections…

Zapatero wants to speak but he cannot do it because there are a lot of supporters who are delighted with the results… He has begun, at last, remembering the victims murdered by ETA and by the terrorism.. He says «they live in our memory». High participation, which is a motive of happiness… And thanks to the citizens who have contributed to a clear victory of teh Socialist party. «Four years ago you asked me not to fail you… so I have made all the efforts not to fail you.

I will lead this country for all but thinking before all in those people that haven’t all.

I will lead to make reality the Women’s aspirations, the Youth’s hopes.

I will lead to make sure that Spain is compromised with peace.

Llamazares is asking the supporters to consider if he can continue or not. But he is not going to opt for re-election in United Left (communists).
